Your Event Your Way

I am of the school of thought that you should host exactly the wedding you want to have. Photographing weddings pre and post pandemic saw a huge shift in what the "perfect" day meant to people. Before the lockdown couples wanted BIGGER and MORE, bigger venues and flowers, more options, more people. It leads to a crazy amount of decisions, an even higher amount of stress and honestly, higher levels of disappointment.

Your wedding is one of those landmark days, an anchor point where you can reflect upon where you were at a specific moment in time. I have seen the huge parties executed spectacularly, perfect weather, excellent food, and a banging playlist to round out the night, but at the end all that's left are the photos. If there are too many items to cross off on the list of to-dos the couples forget to be in the moment. I truly believe in being there, let me capture the details, let me get the little stuff. Invest your few short wedding hours into your guests. They were special enough to get on the guest list, they should definitely get more than just a "thanks for coming" as they walk out the door.

Shinola is an excellent intimate Detroit wedding venue that can do it all. You can have a privatre ceremony in the Birdie Room, step out into the lobby for a cocktail hour with some super friendly bartenders, then head back for delicious dinner and reception with access to a lovely star-lit patio. 70 guests makes for a good party atmosphere but not too many to have to skip having a conversation. I loved working at Shinola, from the crew, to the views. 10/10 would recommend.
